Hailing from the vibrant city of Jaunpur, (Uttar Pradesh), Artist Umendra Pratap Singh completed his formal education in Banaras (now Varanasi). He completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1996 and Master’s in Fine Arts in 1998 from the Faculty of Visual Arts at Banaras Hindu University, with a specialization in Painting. Today, he lives and works as an independent artist in Lucknow, fondly known as the City of Nawabs.
The artist’s art draws inspiration from deep wells of history, mythology, and philosophy. His work often features ancient architecture, lived spaces, and archaeological remains, weaving together elements from the past to tell stories of the present.
His art showcases reflection and fosters a deeper understanding of ancient civilizations and their relevance to contemporary society. Understanding these legacies enables civilizations to learn from history's successes and mistakes, shaping a more enlightened and culturally enriched future.
The artist uses minimalism to convey the silence of time and the gap between eras in his work.
More than just visual art, his paintings serve as preservers of heritage and a bygone era. They remind us of the richness of history and its importance in shaping the present and future. His art is a quiet but powerful call to appreciate, protect, and learn from the knowledge embedded in our cultural roots.
